LayerFlow3D vs Layers.app

Layers is the closest thing here to our storefront, and at the quoting end it is ahead of us: a customer uploads a model and is priced without a person in the loop. What it does not do is look at a machine, a spool or a slicer file - so it prices the job before it happens, and we cost it as it does.

Choose Layers.app if

  • You take one-off jobs from strangers who arrive with a file. Instant quotation from an uploaded model is the core of their product, it is on the free plan, and we do not do it at all.
  • You want customers stopped before they send you something unprintable. Wall thickness, mesh integrity and part count are checked at upload; we would find out when it failed on the bed.
  • You want a white-label shop on every tier, in one of eleven languages. Both are better than ours.
  • You want a CRM that is actually a CRM - segmentation, campaigns, leads, an RFM matrix. Ours is customers and their orders, and nothing more.

Choose LayerFlow3D if

  • You want to know what a job actually cost, not what it was quoted at. Machine hours, power and labour are in our number and are not in theirs.
  • You want the machines read live, on every plan. Nothing in Layers connects to a printer, and the module where production would live is marked unavailable on their own site.
  • You hold filament as stock with a price on each spool and want it drawn down as jobs print.
  • You would rather the slicer's own figures filled the form in than have geometry estimated from a bounding box.
  • You are selling a catalogue - a shelf of products at prices you set, linkable from a bio - rather than running an upload-and-quote bureau.

Where print time and filament weight come from The slicer file. Drop in a 3mf or gcode and both fill themselves in. Estimated from the model's geometry. Slicer import is not on the feature matrix. 1

Questions people ask

Their storefront sounds better than yours. Is it?

At the quoting end, yes, and we would rather say so than have you find out. A customer uploads an STL, it is checked for printability, priced from its geometry and ordered, white-labelled, on the free plan. Ours sells products you have listed at prices you set. If your work arrives as files from strangers, theirs is the better front door.

So why would a print shop pick you?

Because a quote is a guess until something has printed. Layers prices a model from its geometry and then has no way to find out what the job really took - no printer to read, no spool with a price on it, no slicer file. We cost it from the machine that ran it and the filament it drank. If you already know your quoting is fine and your question is where the money went, that is the difference.

Could a shop run both?

Coherently, yes: Layers as the front counter taking uploads and quoting them, us behind it holding the printers, the stock and the margin. It is two subscriptions for one shop, so it is worth it when the upload-and-quote half is genuinely most of the business.

What does Layers cost?

It is priced per order a month, which is our axis too. Free is 5 orders and 200 MB. Startup is $49 a month billed yearly or $60 monthly, for 50 orders. Business is $149 or $180, for 100 orders. Enterprise is custom. Note the prices live at /plans - their /pricing link is a 404, which is easy to read as "they do not publish prices" when they do.
