Make a name keychain, a sign or a lithophane

Type a name or a few words and choose a typeface: the keychain or sign is built on this device as you type, letters raised on a base, and saved as a 3MF that Bambu Studio and OrcaSlicer open with the letters already on the second filament. Or open a photo and get a lithophane.

Drag or press the arrow keys to turn it, scroll or pinch to zoom.

For the preview: the 3MF puts the base on filament 1 and the letters on filament 2, whatever colours they are.

A name keychain in two colours

Somebody orders a keychain with their daughter’s name, pink with white letters. With two filaments loaded it is one print and no painting:

  1. Type the name, pick a typeface and the two colours to see them together.
  2. Turn the model round to check the letters, and change the height of the capitals if it should be larger.
  3. Save the 3MF and open it in Bambu Studio or OrcaSlicer: the base is already on filament 1 and the letters on filament 2. Slice and print.

One colour works too

On a printer with one nozzle and no colour changer, save the STL and print it in one filament, or pause at the layer where the letters start and swap the spool.

Nothing is uploaded: the words and the photo stay on your device.

How the models are made

The keychain

The base follows the outline of the letters with a rim round them, and a tab with a 4.5 mm hole for the key ring sits at the left. Words a space apart are joined by a bar, so the base is always one piece.

The sign

A plate with rounded corners, sized to the words, with the first line at full height and the rest smaller. A border and two holes for 3 mm screws are on unless you switch them off.

Two colours without painting

The 3MF holds the base and the raised letters as two parts of one object, and says which filament each prints in. Bambu Studio and OrcaSlicer read that and print the letters in the second filament; another slicer opens the same parts and lets you choose.

The lithophane

The photo becomes a panel 0.8 mm thick where it is white and 3 mm where it is black, in steps finer than a nozzle draws, with a frame that lets it stand. Print it upright in white PLA and put a lamp behind it.

Typefaces and letters

The typefaces are free fonts with Latin and Cyrillic letters, accents included. A character none of them has is left out, and the page names it.

Closed and ready to slice

Every part is a closed solid with its faces turned out, checked the same way as on the STL repair page, so the slicer has nothing to fix.

Questions people ask

Is it free?

Yes, with no sign-up and no limit on how many models you make. You may sell what you print from them.

How do I print the letters in a second colour?

Save the 3MF and open it in Bambu Studio or OrcaSlicer: the letters are already on filament 2. Load the colours you want into the first two slots and slice. With one nozzle and no colour changer, add a pause at the first layer of the letters and swap the filament there.

Which characters can I type?

Latin and Cyrillic letters, with their accents, digits and the usual punctuation. Anything the typefaces do not have, such as emoji, is left out, and the page says which characters.

What photo makes a good lithophane?

A sharp photo with clear light and shade: a face lit from one side, a landscape with a bright sky. A photo that is all mid-grey prints flat. The page shows how it will look with a lamp behind it before you save it.

Is my photo uploaded?

No. The photo is read and turned into a model on your own device, and nothing about it is sent to us or to anybody else.

Will it print as shown?

The parts are closed solids at the sizes shown. Look at the model in your slicer before you print it. The tool is free and provided as is, without any warranty: we are not responsible for prints, material or time lost on a model made here.

Sell what you print

The maker stays free, with no account. If you take orders for names and signs, LayerFlow3D prices each one from the grams and hours your slicer works out and keeps every order in one place.
